Disconnection of power of WASA’s tube wells:

HQ City Report

QUETTA: The already prevailing water crisis aggravated further after the Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) disconnected the electricity of several tube wells of Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA) the other day.
The electricity connections of the tube wells have been disconnected due to non-payment of the dues, it was learnt here.
According to the reports, the power connections of the tube wells operating in the Marri abad, Ayub Stadium, Gwalmandi Sub-Division, Satellite Town, Sariab Sub-Division, Nawan Killi and Brewery Road Sub-Division have been suspended.
As a result of the power suspension, the water supply is suspended from the tube wells of WASA increasing woes of the citizens.
Needless to mention here is that the people are facing immense problems due to water shortage in different parts of the city with no exception to the main city areas.
While the WASA is unsuccessful in ensuring supply of water to the dwellers, they are depending on the private water tanker operators to meet their water requirements.
The rate of water tankers charged by the private water tanker operators vary from Rs. 800 to Rs. 1,200 on the basis of areas water is supplied to.
Matter of fact remains that the people of the city are in a fix as what to do in the prevailing situation and when they are forced to purchase water at the higher rates.
“We, finding no way out, are compelled to purchase water from private water tanker wala after at least one week or so simply because we are not getting water through WASA pipe lines”, a resident of Arif Road, Muhammad Kamran told in sheer anguish.
He said that it is WASA’s and above all the provincial government’s responsibility to ensure smooth water supply to the people, and if it doesn’t do it then it’s their sheer failure in provision of basic necessities of life to them.
