QUETTA: The water crisis continues to persist in several areas of the provincial metropolis with no respite in the sight.
While the concerned Authority i.e., Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA) seems “incapable†to ensure smooth supply of water to its consumers for one reason or the other, they are forced to purchase water mostly on permanent basis from the private water tanker operators.
We are not going to accept the excuse of WASA that it has the issues in supply of water and meeting requirements of the dwellers in this regard, said a resident of Arif Road, Kamran talking to this scribe.
“I am totally dependent on private water tanker operators for last several days to meet my domestic water need as I have not been supplied even a single drop of water from WASAâ€, maintained the visibly annoyed Arif Road resident.
Another resident of Patel Bagh complained that we are also facing issue of water shortage just because the concerned department is not ensuring smooth supply of water to the area.
He said that despite we pay the water utility bills regularly, but we don’t get water on regular basis. Similar complaints were also being lodged from Jan Muhammad Road, Faqir Muhammad Road, Multani Muhallah, Satellite Town, Toghi Road, Kansi Road, Haji Ghaibi Road, Stewert Road and different other areas of the city with no exception to the main city areas.
The dwellers of the areas demand of the government to resolve the issue of water on permanent basis taking concrete steps instead of making lip service in view of their miseries, which are increasing with every passing day.
If WASA is really facing problems in ensuring smooth supply of water, the government should also take them serious and resolve the same without no time so that the people may not blame the department and thus get a sigh of relief, a resident of Arif Road, Khair Muhammad said.
It is a fact that the demand of water is usually increased almost double in the summer, so the department concerned, and above all, the Minister WASA, Nawab Muhammad Ayaz Khan Jogezai should take necessary steps to improve its functioning as well, many stressed.
The government would have to take steps on war footing grounds to resolve the issue, many others pleaded.
On the other hand, it is also responsibility of the citizens to ensure just use of water so as to preserve it for further, another conscious resident of Faqir Muhammad Road, Muhammad Bashir suggested.
Protest demonstration:
Meanwhile, the resident of Haji Ghaibi Road staged a protest demonstration in their area. They also burnt tyres on the road to show their resentment against non-supply of water to them.
The protestors pointed out that they are facing immense problems due to non-supply of water. The situation has forced them to stage demonstration.
Despite repeated requests to the concerned quarters, nothing is being done to address the issue so far, they regretted adding that the WASA and the district administration is just playing the role of spectator under the given situation.
If the issue was not resolved immediately, then they would intensify their protest further, the protestors asserted.
