PCS vows to play part for creating awareness against smoking

QUETTA: A meeting of the Pakistan Chest Society (PCS) was held under president-ship of its President, Dr. Mehmood Ahmed Shahwani here the other day.
A large number of members of the PCS attended the meeting, which discussed the matters pertaining to observance of the Asthma Day as well as the anti-tobacco initiatives during the holy month of Ramadanul Mubarak and other related issues.
The ill-effects of the use of tobacco on the human health were highlighted in the meeting. It was highlighted that the health of the people is badly affected due to use of tobacco. The smokers suffer from diseases of heart, lungs, ENT and others while it also causes different cancers.
Addressing the meeting, President of the PCS thanked the participants and pledged that the Society would continue its efforts for promotion of awareness against the use of narcotics and particularly the tobacco.
In this regard, different awareness programmes would also be organize, he maintained.
A resolution was also adopted on the occasion demanding ban on smoking particularly at the public places, schools, colleges, airports, railway stations, bus stops, hospitals and during travelling.
It was demanded in the resolution to impose a complete ban on sale of cigarettes to the children and youth and stern action be taken against the violators.
It was also appealed to the general public to avoid smoking as it is injurious to their health. Particularly they should endeavour to rid of the habit of smoking during the holy month of Ramadanul Mubarak, the resolution demanded further.
