Government approves establishment of 14 new colleges in Balochistan

residential colleges to be made functional in
Zhob and Uthal from next academic year

QUETTA: The present provincial government has accorded approval to set up 14 more colleges in the province.
The official sources said that the colleges would be established in the districts where there are a number of male and female students, who are to give up their education after completion of matriculation just because of non-existence of the colleges in their areas.
The sources said that at present development work is continued as many as 68 new and ongoing schemes in the college side. These schemes would be helpful in promotion of higher education in the province.
Similarly, during the ongoing financial year, Rs. 100 million have been provided for purchase of furniture in colleges of the province.
While on the other hand, the grant for purchase of buses for the colleges operating in the remote areas has also been increased. The grant would be increased up to Rs. 110 million from the existing Rs. 60 million.
It may be mentioned here that currently in all 115 Inter and Degree level colleges are operating all over the province where around 60,000 male and female students are studying there.
Moreover, two residential colleges would also be made functional in Zhob and Uthal areas from next academic year.
In addition to them, construction work is also underway for the residential colleges in Sibi and Kharan districts. These would also be completed soon, the sources said.
At present three residential colleges are operating in Turbat, Loralai and Khuzdar districts.
Similarly, the government has planned to start the academic activities in the Cadet Colleges of Noshki and Kohlu from next academic year while the activities are continued in cadet colleges Mastung, Pishin, Jaffarabad, Killa Saifullah and Panjgur.
The government has also made around 100 percent increase in the estimated amount for making the existing cadet colleges more effective.
As far the initiatives being taken by provincial government for the cause of promotion of higher education of university level, the work would be started by the provincial government on building of a University in Sibi with cooperation of the federal government. The land has already been allocated for the University, the sources said.
Needless to mention here is that the Prime Minister had announced establishment of the University in Sibi. Moreover, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has also expressed willingness for establishment of an Agriculture University in Naseerabad Division. The necessary preparations have already been started in this regard.
