Govt. plans to launch solar energy project costing Rs. 1 billion

QUETTA: The provincial government has planned to launch solar energy project costing Rs. 1 billion in the province.
The official sources said that around 300 villages would be electrified under the solar energy project. The government is also planning to shift the electricity agricultural tube wells on the solar energy in order to save the subsidy being given to the agriculture
The decision has been taken in view of the extensive electricity load shedding being observed in the province causing immense problems to the growers.
The official sources mentioned that the government spends around Rs. 13 billion on the subsidy being given currently to the growers and other concerned in the province. The agricultural tube wells would be converted on the solar energy gradually so that the growers may get electricity at least for eight to ten hours a day.
Moreover, the funds of over Rs. 14.33 billion have been allocated for the Energy department in the next financial year 2015-16.
The funds allocated for the current financial year are around 161 percent higher than the previous financial year.
The government has also planned to convert the existing electricity of the official buildings on the solar energy gradually. This would cost around Rs. 157 million.
Similarly, the water supply schemes running under arrangements of the provincial government would also be shifted on the solar energy, the sources confided. The funds of Rs. 407.6 million have been proposed for the purpose.
The supply of electricity to different villages of the province as well as provision of new transformers would cost around Rs. 725 million.
While on the other hand, the government has also planned to launch the coal generating electricity projects in the province. The total cost of the projects is estimated as Rs. 1.5 billion.
The sources said that the projects producing electricity through solar and coal would be completed with cooperation of the private sector.
For the purpose, the investors are being persuaded to make investment. The official sources said that the government is committed to extend all possible facilities to the investors in the province.
