Commissioner Kalat Division visits Gaddani Ship Breaking Yard

LASBELLA Nov 2 (PPI): Loss of precious lives of workers working at ship at Gaddani Ship Breaking Yard is human tragedy. Practical measures would be adopted to check recurrene of such incidents.
These views were expressed by Commissioner Kalat Division Muhammad Hashim Ghlzai Wednesday while speaking with Newsmen after monitoring rescue and relief activities at ship that caught fire following explosions at Gaddani Ship Breaking yard yesterday.
He was flanked by DC Lasbella Syed Zulfiqar Ali shah Hashmi, AC Hub Naeem Jan Gichki and others.
Commissioner said owing to timely coordination and rescue operation of federal and provincial governments death toll remained low while 58 have been rescued and shifted to hospital where they were being provided medical treatment.
He said this is first incident of fire of its kind in any unserviceable ship at the ship breaking yard. Chief Fire Fighter of Karachi Port Trust and other federal government institutions fire brigade were fighting flames. Edhi ambulance has also joined administration in rescue. He said another 48 hours can take to put off the fire at the ship. He said that investigation into cause of fire at the ship has been undertaken. He said wherever there will be lapse responsible institutions would be assessed.
DC Zulfiqar Hashmi said that he was personally monitoring relief activities. He said Balochistan Chief Minister has announced Rupees one million each for relatives of killed workers. Gaddani Ship Breaking Industry would also pay them compensation.
Answering a question he said due non availability of starkle fire brigade relief workers and fire brigade officials were feeling difficulty to fight flames but efforts were on he added.
